Thai (massage) bodywork is a type of deep tissue massage without the severe pain deep tissue massage can produce. With a Thai massage you are lying on a mat on the floor, unlike traditional deep tissue massage where you are lying on a table. This allows the therapist use more of their body for leverage allowing for more pressure into those areas of tension.
Our massage therapist uses slow, deliberate movements that focuses pressure on layers of muscles and tendons along with assisted stretches and joint movements to bring about relief. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.
Our work is outcome based and focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, stress management and the following conditions:
Low back pain
Recovery from injuries
Repetitive strain injury
Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps, rhomboids, upper back
Upper back, shoulder or neck pain
What is a session like?
The client remains fully dressed in comfortable, loose-fitting clothes (exercise clothing) and lies on a Thai mat on the floor. You will be moved into a variety of postions during the session. The therapist uses hands, feet, forearms, elbows, and knees to apply a combination of massage, compression and gentle yoga-like stretches.
A 60 minute session is for focus work and 90 minutes can be total body, depending on your situation. Thai massage is a slower deeper type of work and to be most effective takes more time to bring about the relief you are seeking. **A general relaxation Thai massage can be done in 60 minutes but is best in 90 minutes.**
