Peaceful Strength offers massage therapy, healthy lifestyle education in order to facilitate the health or rehabilitation of our clientele. We believe that whole health begins with balance. We recommend that you make massage therapy a regular program along with good nutrition and exercise. Read through our FAQs below to find out more about the health benefits of adding massage therapy to your health regime.
What to expect from your first appointment?
It is very important to arrive on time (a couple min early) and to have your paperwork completed so it does not eat into your appointment time. During your first appointment we will spend a few minutes reviewing your health history form and doing any necessary assessments. Post massage we will go over a recommended treatment plan.
What are some of the benefits of massage?
There are many benefits to massage therapy - both immediate and long-term. Massage is proven therapy to help reduce stress and pain that can be associated with everyday living.
Here are just a few of the benefits of massage therapy:
How often should I receive Massage Therapy?
- Improves and relieves pain (neck, shoulders, back)
- Relieves headaches
- Improves sleep patterns
- Enhances flexibility
- Reduces stress, anxiety & tension
- Improves posture
- Lessens joint stiffness
- Improves range of motion
- Lowers heart rate/blood pressure
- Stimulates muscle tone
- Relieves mental & physical fatigue
- Increases oxygen flow in body
- Improves immune function
- Releases endorphins
- Promotes faster healing
I recommend that you try to incorporate some kind of regular program according to what you can realistically do. Because we are talking about your muscles, their response is similar to exercise. As with exercise, long-term improvements are not achieved by running a marathon once a year. If you are receiving treatment for injuries you need to initially come in one and two times a week until your pain symptoms have improved and you can space appointments out to maintenance sessions. Maintenance massage is for preventative health care or stress relief, you have more leeway in how often you receive a particular type of therapy. Bi-weekly and monthly sessions are beneficial for prevention and body awareness. The effects of consistent sessions are cumulative. Every week or two can make a big difference in your overall health and tension levels.
How long do the effects of a particular therapy last?
The duration of the effects of therapy varies greatly from person to person depending on your physical condition and activities. If you are consistent with your massage appointments and with your recommended stretching and exercise program you can feel good for a couple weeks or more before things start to feel tight and aggravated.
When should I NOT have Massage Therapy?
If you have any of the following conditions, you should not have a session: Fever, any type of infectious disease or contagious rash, systemic infections, severe colds, fracture, bleeding, burns or other acute injury, liver and kidney diseases, blood clots, high blood pressure (unless under control with medication), some heart disease, cancer (may be OK with doctor's note), open skin lesions or sores (therapist may work around them if localized).
