Beware of RSI. You ask what is RSI. Is it the creature from the Fire Swamp in Princess Bride? Nooooo that's ROUS (click here if you love Princess Bride).

RSI is repetitive stress injury.  Not so scary as the ROUS (rodents of unusual size)

but it can be pretty painful (like getting attacked by a ROUS).  When you perform a motion hour after hour, day after day it will cause muscular changes. It does not have to be a major motion it can be something small. Lifting heavy boxes on a conveyor belt like at UPS,  using a mouse and keying, performing a motion in a sport (golf swing, baseball pitch, running). All can cause RSI.

I went to a concert last weekend (Jon Butcher Axis) and it got me pondering. I absolutely love music. Live music especially. As we were watching the show I was singing along and having a good time and it dawned on me how happy I was at that moment. I don’t know about you but I want more moments like that. Pure joy. Not a care in the world. Just in the moment. Smiling, singing, laughing, and sharing a good time with my guy.

With music comes dancing, something else I love. I can’t carry a tune and my family has banned me to singing alone. But I can keep a beat and can dance. Mind you I am no Solid Gold Dancer (ya ya I am that old. Kiddies go look it up) but I do have a great time on the dance floor.

I know they are pretty, come in many colors, styles, and heel heights but I think high heels are the tool of the devil invented by men to keep us from running fast. Well maybe that is an over exaggeration on the men part but they certainly are a tool of the devil. I have a closet full of heels and boots that I occasional choose to torture myself by wearing. They make a dress look great, your legs longer and your butt look better, and when you look down they can be sparkly and ohhh so pretty.  They hurt! Within an hour your toes start to ache, followed by the balls of your feet, then your lower back kicks in and starts talking loudly, and finally if you are as lucky as me,  hours after they have come off your feet you get calf and foot cramps so bad that you wake up swearing and begging to god to have it stop. Now that is not an exaggeration.

Wow, I can not believe my vacation has come to a close. It was an amazing trip. If you ever have the chance for a long road trip on a bike you must take it. I hesitated to go, really who wants to spend 12 days on the back of a bike, I am so thankful that I did it. To see parts of this amazing country and meet folks on the road was so awesome!

I will share some of the do’s and don’t that I learned……

Starting this adventure with a head cold was no fun. A helmet a runny/stuffy nose and wind in the face equals a dull headache for a few days.  So stay healthy before hitting the road.

If you have a full face helmet wear it. I love the wind in my face but 6-8 hours a day equals chapped lips and dry windburned skin.

Ok, Ladies, this blog is for you. You guys can read too you might relate or want to share with someone.

I was going through my client records, something all good business owners do time to time, and I discovered something important. I have more male clients who come to see me on a regular basis than women.

I also found that I get more women to come in for the first time by offering a deep discount, more men come in with no discount. Men will come in more frequent and generally won’t hesitate to come in when in pain. Looking at these numbers and stats has me asking why? Is it me? Is it my message? Or is it how women value themselves and what their priorities are.

I was discussing workouts with a friend the other day when they made the statement “I need to see you for a massage. I am so sore after my workouts and I know massage is great for getting rid of toxins and the lactic acid built up in my muscles.” That got me thinking about how often I have heard this statement and how it is so difficult to get rid of incorrect information.

The lactic acid and toxin theories have become urban legends in so many gyms and massage offices. I want to correct this misinformation as best and as simply as I can without going all sciencey on you, I will do my best to keep it simple.

I know my blog is attached to my massage business page but there are times where I am not inspired to write about health and massage. And seeing that it is my blog, I am the boss, after all, I can decide what I want to write about. It may be a news story or a crazy indecent that happened to me that will inspire me. This week’s inspiration came from FaceBook.

I admit I spend some time on FB and belong to a few different groups. One group is focused on happenings in Manchester. As a new resident, I like to see what is going on here in the city. I have seen several posts regarding the “panhandlers, homeless, junkies or scammers” whatever they may be called in someone’s post. The streets seem to be full of these folks.

Many a comment at the end of a massage sound like “Wow! You are like magic. I feel so much better.” Or I am asked  “How do you find the right spots? I swear you are a magician.” Just call me Kreskin the Massage Magician! haha

To be honest there is no magic. There is lots of observation, repetition, and listening going on. Some days I do think there is a little intuition added but mostly I just watch and feel. I think most good massage therapists are huge people watchers before they ever become a therapist. You have to watch how someone moves, observer the expressions on their face and listen to what they are saying or not saying. Then throw in massage training and the study of anatomy and kinesiology. Poof, you have a massage therapist. Like magic wink wink…

Peaceful Road

To quote my hubby “There I was minding my own business”…. when suddenly I am attacked by what I assume are killer deer flies who have been given orders to defend the woods and maim anyone who passes into their territory…..

I am doing my best to stay healthy. I have been struggling with motivation as of late and thought to myself ”why don’t you go for a walk instead of lifting weights in the dirty ‘ol basement” so off I went.

Moving into a new house in a new city has left me searching for a nice place to walk where I don’t have to drive to get there. I walked the neighborhood once and it is just too small. There is no outlet and in 15 minutes I had lapped it. Boring….Today I decided to walk a busy road for a few minutes to a quiet street that ends as a dirt road that stretches for a nice long way. Perfect, well other than the 6 minutes on the busy street. Off I went. Headphones in, ball cap on, and water in hand.

Well friends, I have to say my life has been crazy the past few weeks – heck months. Selling and buying a home IS the MOST stressful experience I have ever had. We are in our new home and slowly settling in. I have learned a couple things that I want to share.

Moving Tips

1. Purge. When you think you have purged enough purge more. And when you think you are done do it again.

2. Label your boxes. Not with just “Kitchen” but exactly what is in said kitchen box.
